Digital Artwork { 20 images } Created 21 May 2013

Some of my digital art was created entirely on the computer while others are photographs that I've taken into my digital darkroom, adding textures and filters, and often combining different images.

  • A bright red kite caught in the branches of a tree with a modern textured feel. Taken in San Diego, California, USA just after sunrise with Mission Bay in the background. Whimsical home decor. On the morning of my birthday a couple of years ago, I was lucky to be in San Diego. I got up just after sunrise and took a walk along this park by the beach to take some early morning photographs. I didn't see this kite on my intial walk but when I turned around and was nearly back at the hotel I saw it and couldn't resist. Although it was caught in the tree, its cheery red color made me smile. I've used textures I designed combining photos of walls from an abandoned building in Pennsylvania and paint peeling off a wall in Tallin, Estonia, so you could say this photo has an international feel.

  • Memory is fleeting. Memories persist. A contemplation of dreams and memories. Those we wish to remember often escape us. Those we wish to forget often persist.

  • Soft dreamy romantic forest natural background of giant redwood trees (Sequoia sempervirens) Muir Woods, Mill Valley, California, USA. The Muir Woods National Monument is an old growth forest of coast redwoods aka California redwoods. S. sempervirens are the tallest trees on earth. The original photograph on which this romantic natural background image is based is also available in my portfolio.

  • Digital Noise. Image 3 of a 4-part series starting with Interconnectedness of Things representing how information and the free flow of ideas surrounds us on the internet, a good thing that unfortunately can sometimes lead to information overload, hence Digital Noise.

  • Fragmentation. The final image in the 4-part series that starts with Interconnectedness of Things v1.0 representing how the free flow of ideas online can unite us, but it can also distance us from each other turning us into a fragmented blue and red community.

  • Castle Hill Lighthouse at twilight during the blue hour just before sunset, Newport, Rhode Island, USA with a vintage retro textured feel taken in early September. Mixed media fine art photograph with texture, digital painting and filters added. The beautiful granite tower, completed in 1890, is built right into the cliff face. The original beacon was a kerosene-powered fifth-order Fresnel lens, which was replaced in 1899, and again in 1957 by the current modern plastic lens when the last lighthouse keeper left and Castle Hill light was automated in 1957. With its red beacon, Castle Hill light house is still an active navigational aids for ships in Narragansett Bay heading toward Providence and Newport, RI. The lighthouse stands on land sold to the United States government for $1.00. Although the tower is not open to the public, you may walk right up to it across the cliffs via paths from the Castle Hill Inn, a lovely bed and breakfast with a charming restaurant nearby, and approach the water’s edge via a steep stairway.
