Adorable Lego minifigure young boy sailing his fleet of ships in a pond. He is barefoot and wears a bathing suit, sunglasses and a home made pirate hat made from newspaper. Selective focus on the little pirate and his ships.
A charming scene for children to hang in their bedroom or playroom. Part of a series with this minifigure and taken both outdoors in the summer sunshine and indoors with them discovering the sword in the attic (inspired by real life - read on!).
I photographed this series for a challenge based on the Lego pirate themed toys in a Lego photography group for AFOLs (Adult Fans of Lego) that I joined about a year ago when I first became interested in toy photography.
I did not have any Lego pirate themed mini figures, so I experimented with tiny pieces of newspaper, adapting instructions I found for a home made pirate hat, and I found the Playmobil sword among the detritus up in my own attic, along with the parrot. Happily for my grandson, I had already given him whatever Legos of my daughter’s I still had, so I am building my collection from scratch.
At six years old, my grandson is a much better builder than I am. His joy in building Legos is contagious and made me realize that the infinite scenarios you can make with bricks and mini figures would provide endless photo possibilities.
I built this scene by adding a different dock, a much larger pond and lots of plants to a modified version of the Lego Cozy House which you can see in the background. Lego group members suggested purchasing that set so I'd have some good bricks to work since my collection is very small. I also bought those clear blue tiles, some second hand minifigure parts such as the bathing suit, and other miniature parts and bricks via Lego build a brick.
