This image is currently on display in the "Solidarity and Sunrise" exhibit co-sponsored by the Town of New Castle's Council for Race Equity, at the Art Closet Gallery in Chappaqua, NY through November 10, 2020.
Two generations after Dr. Martin Luther King's "I Have A Dream" speech, we have a president who refuses to condemn white supremacists. It is beyond reason, yet, as I watch today's youth take up the fight for race equity & social justice, I am hopeful.
When I shot this image in 2015, I titled it "Dream Boat" because the reflections of the clouds inside and outside the canoe lend a dreamy quality to the scene. In preparing for the current exhibit, this image leapt out at me as I considered whether those clouds hide what is below the surface, as so much of the racial animus in this country lay below the surface for so long.
Prior to the current exhibit, this photograph hung in a juried show at the Carriage Barn Art Center in New Canaan, Connecticut as well as in a solo pop-up show sponsored by the Northern Westchester Artists Guild.
