Marblehead Lighthouse State Park on Lake Erie, Marblehead, Ohio, in the fall, with green light lit during the golden hour as the sun sets, September 2018.. The oldest Great Lakes lighthouse in continuous operation, since 1822. The name “marblehead,” meaning “marble headland,” comes from the rocky Marblehead Peninsula on which it stands, a headland made of Columbus limestone, often mistakenly called marble.
