LOUISVILLE, KY - January 3, 2019: Memorial statue of Barbaro, winner of six races including the 2006 Kentucky Derby, with jockey Edgar Prado, by Kentucky artist Alexa King outside the Kentucky Derby Museum. A memorial to the horse, who shattered his leg in the Preakness and fought to overcome the injury for a year, Barbaro’s ashes are buried beneath it. Louisville is considered the southernmost midwestern city in the US and the northernmost southern city, so it is considered part of the South and the Midwest.
